Our Mission
Our mission at SANE is:
-
To provide services and education for people who inject drugs (PWID) which helps them enhance their health and wellness and improve their quality of life.
-
To employ in all our efforts the principles of humanism, harm reduction, and respect for human rights and dignity.
What We Do
SANE’s philosophy is harm reduction, a public health and safety approach to drug use that relies on efficacy evidence and respects the rights and abilities of drug users to make self-defined positive change. This means:
-
All our practices, policies, and programs are based on evidence
-
People who inject drugs (PWID) are involved in all parts of designing programs, putting the designs into practice, and measuring if the programs are effective
-
Treating everyone with dignity & respect; and
-
Supporting any positive change, as defined by those making the change.
SANE is aiming to reduce the harms associated with drug use, focusing on slowing the spread of HIV and hepatitis C and reducing the number and serious outcomes of overdoses (OD) & abscesses (skin & soft tissue infections or SSTI). SANE works from an asset-based, wellness model and is committed to the health, quality of life, and human rights of PWID in our community.
